13.09.2010 : now the harvest

The beginning of the harvest in 2010 was set for September 13, 2010 but, according to zones - early, middle or late - the harvest of the vineyard will continue until the end of the month.
Since late August, the weather is sunny : one day of heavy rain but that was immediately followed by one day of wind that prevented the development of foci of rot and dried the remaining water on the soil and on the plant.
Photos of the harvest taken on September 15 will allow you to judge the beauty of the first grapes harvested.

In less than two weeks, we will harvest.
Last year we harvested from 1 September this year, it will start from Sept. 15.
of course, It is impossible to give any notice before harvested then vinified and finally tasted the wines this year. We only know the results of samples taken in the vineyards.
These analytical data indicates that the development is satisfactory since the beginning of August. The degrees are progressing well - between August 26 and September 2, the future level of wines grew at a rate of 0.1° / day -.
There was a fairly high acidity but steadily declining. The sunny weather of recent days has been very beneficial.

Ripening began in the early days of August. You will see on the pictures below that some grapes are already well advanced, but others less so. Also on the same grapes the maturation is uneven: it is the result of the flowering period, which lasted nearly 15 days. From now on, we need the weather improved, fortunately the specialists announces a return of good weather.

The month of July was particularly hot and dry, and this has fostered a good development of maturation.
You can see from these photos the satisfactory sanitary condition of grapes. The clusters are well trained and quantity sufffisante. It may be noted some grains which are much smaller than the others : it is what we call millerandage. From experience, this phenomenon has a positive result on the future quality of wines. This will confirm or not to harvest.

The summer heat are present from June 22 The grapes are now formed, the grains grow. It only remains to hope that the weather stays with us until the harvest.

The flower appeared in the middle of June . Compared to last year, it is a little later. In 2009, she appeared to May 25, it has 10-15 days behind in 2009 but earlier than 2008 - to June 15 -.
In fact, the flower of a normal year the harvest should take place in the first half of September to early areas.

If the winter of 2009 was qualified as rigorous what about the winter 2010?
Compared to last year, the frosts have been stronger and longer periods: from late November until late March, is almost 4 months of winter!
By cons since early April, the weather has improved significantly and, as every year, the vine has grown : the first leaves appeared in mid-April.
The weather almost summer that followed, resulted in a dramatic growth that you can see on the photos below.
